Save the Internet

I love the Internet. The Internet helped me heal. The Internet gave me encouragement and I met people who could support me. I also found scientific information about alternative medicine. But freedom of the Internet is threatened. We can not have a democracy without a free press…and in our new age the Internet is part of the press. There is no more important issue to democracy today than freedom of the press. We need to be able to read whatever we chose to read. We don’t need big companies restricting what is placed on the Internet.

Whatever your political bend is….right, left, center or apolitical…this is an issue that affects your daily life…your very health. Contact your candidates at every level of government and tell them, “The United States of America needs ‘Net Neutrality.'” We can not just complain about the big companies giving their own message, we need to make sure that dissent voices are not blocked out. Blogs on numerous subjects deemed offensive by big corporations have been taken down by big companies.

This is an issue for people with mental illness and the recovery world because when our brothers and sisters in the blogging world have been bocked out or threaten with crushing lawsuits, it might me you or me next. Already, pharmaceutical companies have but pressure on the Internet providers and the actual individual bloggers. Contact your congressperson and tell them to fight for Internet freedom. After you contact your congressperson, talk to your friend and family members.

Who wants to get rid of Net Neutrality?

The nation’s largest telephone and cable companies — including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner — want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won’t load at all. They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video — while slowing down or blocking their competitors.
